Around The Smoke
I knew Felix would come up with a brilliant plan (because he is Felix).
And sure enough, while we all sit and have breakfast he says:

Happy Arrival in Cascade Locks!
We don’t need to hitch into town, the PCT goes right through it.
Having a shower, sleeping and waking up in a real bed is indeed very nice!
We order an Uber Taxi and get a ride downtown Bend to have a coffee and meet up with Andy!
So I am having breakfast with Cowboy at the Fishlake Resort.
“I am going to get a ride up to Crater Lake”, he says. “I have blisters and am done hiking for now”.
Well….
I made it back to Etna. My heart is very heavy, but I will push on.
What have we read on that blaze the other day. PCT = Persistence Creates Toughness. And I need to be more tough. Yes I do.
My trail family and I seem to have come to the conclusion and general agreement, that there is really no reason to rush at the moment. The slower we hike, the more time does the snow have to melt.
Andy’s dad and his wife drive us further north. So I get to sit a bit more in this enormously gigantic car and be very comfortably driven all the way up.
So the big question is:
“Shall I heave myself and my backpack up Mount Baden-Powell or should I better play safe and take the detour around it?”
Alright… Laying in my tent, it is 5pm! Never made camp so early. But have never been in a PCT storm before either!
My Therma Rest Neo Air X lite sleeping mattress is a great piece of gear. I am very happy with it, as it is soft, lightweight and I sleep surprisingly well on it.
But it can get holes.
